In Grand Rapids, Michigan, Forty Acres Soul Kitchen isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a celebration of African American history and culinary traditions. Forty Acres Soul Kitchen is the only African American-owned full-service restaurant in the area, and co-owners Lewis Williams and Darel Ross II are at the forefront of reviving the Wealthy Street District, bringing back a vibrant community spirit and economic empowerment.
Forty Acres’ menu offers a twist on traditional soul food, incorporating healthy and vegetarian options that cater to all health-conscious diners while staying true to Williams’ and Ross’ cultural roots.
Supported by a loan from Northern Initiatives through the Michigan Good Food Fund, Forty Acres Soul Kitchen has since its launch created 15 new jobs in the community and significantly boosted the local economy.
