Support of healthy food cafe

Founded in 2014, Flying Moose is a modern general store in downtown Marquette, Michigan that features locally sourced, organic food plus other products targeting active, health conscious consumers in this upper peninsula community. The business’s success caught the attention of the town’s public library, who approached Flying Moose owners with the opportunity to open a café in the basement of its downtown Library. The healthy food outpost opened in August 2016 selling prepared foods made from locally sourced produce, products, and meats. Michigan Good Food Fund awarded a loan through Northern Initiatives in June 2016. This provided store owners with working capital to assist with the expansion and purchase inventory and small equipment.

Update: The second Flying Moose location in the library closed in May 2017. Flying Moose has now consolidated all operations back to its original location in Marquette.
