Food entrepreneurs from across Macomb County gathered with Michigan Good Food Fund and its partners at Cloverleaf Bar and Restaurant in Eastpointe for an evening of connection, conversation, and Detroit-style pizza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests had the opportunity to network over slices of Cloverleaf\u2019s signature pizza before hearing from representatives of Michigan Good Food Fund and the City of Eastpointe. Speakers shared insights on how entrepreneurs can access Michigan Good Food Fund resources to support and finance their food or farm businesses<\/a>. These conversations opened the door to a broader understanding of how investments and partnerships that support small food businesses can directly impact local food system in Michigan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event welcomed a diverse mix of business owners, including bakers, caterers, food truck operators, packaged goods producers, and urban farmers. Michigan Good Food Fund emphasized its commitment to supporting a wide range of food and farm businesses\u2014from start-ups to expanding operations. To illustrate this range, the team shared an example of a unique business they financed that used sheep to manage grass growth around solar panels, reinforcing that innovation and sustainability are valued by Michigan Good Food Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When asked what they look for in potential partners, Michigan Good Food Fund\u2019s team  pointed to mission alignment<\/a> as a key factor. \u201cBecause we work statewide, we want to ensure that we support a wide and diverse range of businesses,\u201d Shakir Bralock, investment manager at Michigan Good Food Fund, shared. \u201cWe also consider how the success of your business will positively impact the community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That spirit of community was reflected throughout the evening\u2014including in remarks from a Cloverleaf team member, Marie Guererra Easterby. who spoke about the legacy of the restaurant and the relationships built over the years. When asked what they enjoy most about the business, the answer was simple: \u201cThe people. The people are the best part.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also served as a space for entrepreneurs to exchange stories, ask questions, and share their aspirations with others who understand the challenges of building a food business. Some attendees expressed appreciation for having financing opportunities<\/a> tailored specifically for food businesses, while others noted that the peer learning and support felt just as valuable as the financial information provided. For Michigan Good Food Fund and its partners, gatherings like this are more than informational\u2014they’re affirmations of the potential that lies within Michigan\u2019s food economy. By investing in entrepreneurs who are passionate about both profit and purpose, the organization continues to help build a more just, inclusive, and resilient food system across the state.
