Este es el tercero de una serie de reportajes sobre inversiones en empresas alimentarias de Detroit que trabajan para aumentar el acceso a alimentos asequibles y sanos en comunidades de bajos ingresos y desatendidas.<\/i><\/p>\n

Cuando Monique Dooley era profesora, se dio cuenta de la relaci\u00f3n entre lo que com\u00edan los alumnos y c\u00f3mo se sent\u00edan y comportaban.<\/p>\n

\"Los niveles de energ\u00eda de los ni\u00f1os cambiaban y su comportamiento tambi\u00e9n, y eso me intrigaba mucho\", dice.<\/p>\n

Esa idea se le qued\u00f3 grabada. Por eso, cuando dej\u00f3 la ense\u00f1anza en 2013, le pareci\u00f3 l\u00f3gico crear una empresa dedicada a la salud.<\/p>\n

Ahora puedes ver a Dooley detr\u00e1s del mostrador de\u00a0Fresh101 Superfood Caf\u00e9<\/a>Recientemente ha abierto un bar de zumos en el que recibe a los clientes con una amplia sonrisa y les informa sobre los zumos prensados en fr\u00edo, los batidos y las sopas de la carta.<\/p>\n

La nueva cafeter\u00eda, que ocupa un espacio peque\u00f1o y moderno en Canfield Street y Cass Avenue, llena un hueco en Midtown, donde un bar de zumos encaja felizmente entre estudios de yoga, boutiques hipster, librer\u00edas y el campus de la Wayne State University.<\/p>\n

Dooley dice que los residentes de la zona,\u00a0Midtown Detroit, Inc.<\/a>y otros propietarios de negocios hab\u00edan estado buscando un bar de zumos para abrir en el barrio. La cafeter\u00eda tambi\u00e9n est\u00e1 en consonancia con el movimiento de la ciudad de Detroit hacia los barrios de 20 minutos, un concepto en el que los residentes pueden ir andando o en bicicleta a las tiendas, la comida y el ocio en 20 minutos o menos.<\/p>\n

Capital Impact Partners, el gestor de fondos del MGFF, es el principal prestamista para pr\u00e9stamos de m\u00e1s de $250.000 y coordina una red de prestamistas intermediarios, entre ellos Northern Initiatives, para facilitar pr\u00e9stamos de menor cuant\u00eda. Para Dooley, el negocio de los zumos y la atenci\u00f3n a grupos de poblaci\u00f3n vulnerables, como los que est\u00e1n en proceso de recuperaci\u00f3n, es una transici\u00f3n natural desde su formaci\u00f3n en educaci\u00f3n.
