BUILD Institute in Detroit is hosting a special cohort of BUILD Basics, powered by the Michigan Good Food Fund. This eight-week, in-person course provides additional support for Detroit-based food and farm entrepreneurs to grow and scale their enterprise through business planning support, mentorship from food industry experts, and access to flexible financing opportunities and capital access resources from the Michigan Good Food Fund’s network of lenders. 

BUILD Basics for Food Entrepreneurs aims to support Detroit’s diverse community of food-based businesses using a collaborative, wrap-around approach between BUILD Institute’s entrepreneurial education programming and the Michigan Good Food Fund’s resources for mentorship and capital access. Interested entrepreneurs who meet the following eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply by May 21!

Eligibility Requirements 

  • You’re a food or farm business registered with the state of Michigan and located in Detroit, Michigan.   
  • You’re a growing business. Your business has been operating for at least two years, generating a minimum annual revenue of $25K+, and seeking financing in the next 3-6 months.   
  • You’re ready to commit. You and one colleague (optional) are highly motivated and able to commit to the training schedule below, meet with an advisor for up to 2 hours per week, meet with the course facilitator at least twice during the eight-week class, and spend additional time on your own each week to complete homework.  
  • You have a realistic financial goal and proposed use of funds, i.e., you need equipment or inventory to fill an order.   
  • Your business has filed taxes for 2022.  
  • Your business holds a certificate of good standing with the state of Michigan.   

Please note: Only two attendees from one business can attend.
